Someone asked for information about Ayurvedic "medicine". Here is an excerpt from something I found on the internet last year. For openers, I recap one instance of the Ayurvedic approach (details below):

This article discusses an unfortunate encounter between the leading medical pundit of the movement and the American Medical Association, in which he managed to fool the AMA Journal. They finally detected the fraud.

Skolnick, Andrew A. "Maharishi Ayur-Veda: Guru's Marketing Scheme"
A. On behalf of The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), science journalist Andrew A. Skolnick revealed financial links between the TM organization and researchers Brihaspati Dev Triguna and Deepak Chopra, who published an article in JAMA on the effectiveness of Ayurveda and Transcendental Meditation without disclosing their financial connection to the TM organization. He also pointed out the financial connections between the researcher Tony Nader and the organization. Further allegations in Skolnick's article targeted the sale of what he saw as “expensive and useless” herbal medicines for AIDS sufferers.

Skolnick's long article, published in JAMA's "Medical News & Perspectives" section, intensively examines the facts of the case and concludes that [Deepok] Chopra has repeatedly lied about his relationship to "Maharishi Ayur-Veda Products International , Inc. " , and all three authors even failed in the correction of August 1991 [published in JAMA] to reveal all their important implications.
Rather, Skolnick found that "Maharishi Ayur-Veda" is not so much a revival of traditional Indian medicine but more "a trademark for a range of products and services."
He wrote : An investigation of the marketing practices of the TM movement reveals what seems to be a widespread pattern of misinformation and deception, and manipulation of the laymens and media of scientific news.
This campaign seems to have the goal of gaining at least the appearance of scientific respectability for the TM movement, as well as making gains from sales of the main products and services that bear Maharishi 's names. Skolnick then documents this in detail.
He describes several appalling examples of fraud and quackery, culminating in a report of the professional misdirection of two British para-physicists (Leslie Davis, MA, MD, BCh, FRCS, Dean of Physiology at the "Maharishi University of Natural Law", Bedfordshire, Roger A. Chalmers, MA, MB, BCh, MRCP, Dean of Medicine at the "Maharishi Ayur-Veda College of Natural Medicine" and President of the World Medical Association for Perfect Health, Bedfordshire).
They treated AIDS patients with herbal supplements "made up of plant material, fungus, excrement, and bacteria." An AIDS patient suffering from food problems had caused costs after administering this irritant mixture (as he died afterwards) the matter came before the "Professional Conduct Committee" of the "General Medical Council" in London. It seems that this concatenation of events is responsible for the sudden "interest" in Maharishi's Ayur-Veda.
